Average review score:

classical elegance
Pick up this book and let all your cares slip away as you fantasise about what is possible in your classical home. Beidermeir furniture, plantation shutters, Le Corbusier furniture and parquet flooring all feature in this stylish expose of classicism. With a chronological journey through Adam style and classic french to modern interpretations of classic Greek ( for the greeks didn't have the kitchens we have) you can sigh, plan and ponder. Real life examples show that the style is achievable and affordable. This book is a joy to behold.

Climbing a Great Mountain: Selected Speeches of Mayor Harold Washington
Published in Hardcover by Bonus Books (February, 1989)
Authors: Harold Washington and Alton Miller
Average review score:

The speechwriter comments on his work
I had the honor to serve as Mayor Harold Washington's press secretary and speechwriter for 1000 days, from February 1985 through his death in November, 1987. While working on a memoir of those days (HAROLD WASHINGTON, THE MAYOR, THE MAN, published in 1989) I negotiated with my publisher to produce another book in time for the first anniversary of the mayor's death, which I titled CLIMBING A GREAT MOUNTAIN, quoting from his first inaugural address.

These speeches (and photographs) capture some of the spirit of that period -- what he called the "New Spirit of Chicago." I may have been his speechwriter, but his speeches were completely his own -- initially shaped by his philosophy, then massaged by his phrasings through our endless conversation, and then finally recast in his own words as he spoke, often without notes.

Paging back through those speeches ten years later, I find there a sometimes lost language of progressive politics -- an unabased defense of affirmative action, for example, and of activist governmental solutions to social problems.

Coretta Scott King was kind enough to provide a foreword, and I have briefly sketched a context for each speech. But the ideas -- and the passion for fairness and the strength to persevere against the politics of hate, and the articulate optimism about democracy -- are pure Harold.

Clinical Social Work Practice With the Elderly
Published in Paperback by Wadsworth Publishing (January, 1992)
Authors: Beaver and Miller
Average review score:

Learning to Handle the 36 Hour Day
This text helped me to understand the behavioral changes that coincide with aging, and specifically helped me to deal with my parents and elderly relatives who are all in their 80's and above. (My grandmother lived to age 110.) By reading and understanding the types of changes and losses experienced - vision, hearing, psychological changes (How would you feel if every week you went to services they were conducting a memorial for someone you knew?),health problems - I was able to moderate my behaviors so we had (and have) more friendly and communicative interactions that have a semblance of normality.

Closer Than a Brother: Daily Moments in the Life of Christ
Published in Hardcover by Moody Publishers (September, 1995)
Authors: J. R. Miller and James S. Bell
Average review score:

Great Devotional Book!!!
I never had a devotional book that completely covers the life and gospel of Jesus in every page. J.R. Miller brings me in knowing the Lord daily in His life on earth and how we should also emulate our Lord in our lives. This book draws me in applying the gospel of Jesus in my daily life. No life experiences have we that Jesus never experienced and overcome.

I highly recommend this book for your devotional library. 365 days meditating on the life of Jesus. The book is also handy to carry and has a nice cover and title. A nice gift to your close friends.

The Coca Box
Published in Paperback by Xlibris Corporation (June, 2003)
Author: Carol Miller

Great Fun
This brand new book by my favorite author is more fun than any of her others. In a romp through Peru four unlikely travelers visit the archaeological sites, but one of them devotes herself, behind the backs of the others, to collecting illicit artifacts. Does she get caught? Not exactly. This is a new way to approach art and history. Once you start reading you can't put the book down.

The Collectible Teapot & Tea Calendar 2003

Average review score:

The best tea calendar
Whether you enjoy socializing at tea parties, sipping quietly on a cup of tea at home by yourself, or just appreciate the beautiful tea sets, this is the calendar for you. I have had this calendar in my kitchen for the last 3 years, and I love it! Every photograph is staged to enhance the beauty and history of each tea set, and you feel like you're almost there having tea. I only wish they would include the recipes for the delicious looking goodies they include in the photographs!

Collectibles Price Guide
Published in Paperback by Dorling Kindersley Publishing (February, 2003)
Author: Judith Miller
Average review score:

A helpful, easy-to-use, collectibles guide
This valuable resource guide not only offers pricing information, but 'closer look' background and history on many, many items. I was able to use this book to take stock of items I currently have and become more knowledgeable about designers and collections I had not yet discovered. The information is concise and readable; the visuals are beautifully done. A big bonus at the end includes a directory of auctioneers, clubs and societies, and, my particular favorite --Internet resources. I've learned a lot from this book and refer to it often. All in all, a very accesible, enjoyable book.

The Color Mac
Published in Paperback by Hayden Books (April, 1995)
Authors: Marc D. Miller and Randy Zaucha
Average review score:

The best book to learn about the complexities of color seps
Color separations are a complex area, at best. This book was clearly the best in the market for clear concise information that will not go out of date. It is not focused on any platform or any specific Photoshop version. Do not hesitate to order it. I have been teaching top end desktop publishing and digital printing since 1991. I still use this book in my classes.
